Q: I’m a bit worried about the safety of the necklaces for young children. How do they do up?
A: Being a parent, I am very aware of the safety issue. I offer various options including one where there are no fastenings at all on the jewellery. They simply overlap on the wrist or neck. This is to ensure safety with the younger participants, but also means that the children can use the jewellery themselves, without having to ask you to put them on and off! For older children I use magnetic claps on the necklace. These stay on really well, but will come undone if the necklace gets caught on something.
Q: Do the children cut wire?
A: No. Older children use pliers to twist wire, but I do any cutting. I do this away from the children.
Q: I really want more children to be able to come. Can you increase the numbers?
A: I limit numbers to ensure that I have time to help all the children. I have to finish off each piece of jewellery and also give help and advice. If I increased the numbers too much, I would risk frustrating children who would have to wait longer for help. However, I can increase the total number to 10, if older children are doing the overlap jewellery as they do need less help. Very few tables can take more than 10 children, 10 bead boards and lots of beads!
Q: Is there loads of clearing up to do afterwards?
A: No. All the children design their jewellery on bead boards. These make designing easy and include bead trays, so most beads stay on the bead boards. It only takes me about 10-15 mins each end to set out and clear up, so there is time to use the table for the party tea afterwards.
Q: Can you do children’s parties after school, as well as the weekends?
A: Yes, I can do later (from 6pm) after school parties most weekdays, but if you are local, I can be at a party by 4.30pm on Fridays. I can also do daytime and evening parties in the holidays.
Q: Are you able to accommodate boys at the party?
A: Yes. I offer a wide range of colours and also include some wooden beads. These are of course available to both boys and girls. I can also offer black velvet bags, instead of organza ones.
